New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera
continues in 2023 under new management!
Founded in 1989, the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera has been an integral part of the region’s classical music culture. Led by Metropolitan Opera luminary Lucine Amara for the last 30+ years, the nonprofit organization has delivered a rich, grand opera experience for performers and viewers. As the Bergen Performing Arts Center’s house opera company, Verismo Opera has provided performing opportunities for musicians and artists through its semi-annual productions at the theatre and concerts held in community settings.
After 30 years, Verismo Opera will be moving forward under new management with new and exciting seasons of traditional stagings of the most popular operas and other musical presentations that honor the vision of the great European composers. Giorgio Lalov will be entering the position of Artistic Director, General Manager, and Stage Director, casting the soloists and staging the operas. Verismo Opera will invite different guest conductors for each opera.

Objectives
Engaging superb artists to create and perform in fully-staged operas and gala concerts
To enhance a talented, professional orchestra and a chorus of locally-based singers to be the backbone of NJAVO productions
Providing performance and professional development opportunities for New Jersey and regionally-based opera singers
Offering educational experiences to high school students throughout the region by engaging them as extras in the opera productions, inviting them to create artwork for the program cover and including their essays on the operas in the program. In doing we hope to build an opera audience for the future…
